Happy Monday everyone! Today on Meet the board Monday we have Nadine Raill from Laurent Beaupre.
1. Tell me a bit about yourself and your family.
**I am the youngest of 4 children being the only girl. My father and eldest brother both owned insurance brokerages. As a young child, my aspiration was to be a school teacher. I actually fell into the insurance industry by accident. My first insurance employer was Zurich in Moncton NB where my career began 34 years ago. In 1993, I then moved to Edmundston get married and start a family. Having raised 2 boys, I am now a very proud grandmother to a 3 year old grand daughter.
2. Have you always lived in New Brunswick?
**I was born in Quebec but raised and have always lived in NB.
a. Yes…what parts?
**I lived in Dalhousie (northern part of NB) until I graduated in 1986. I then moved to Moncton to attend university and where I lived until 1993 at which time moved to Edmundston to get married and start my family.
b. No…where else? How long? What did you do there?
**While I have always lived in NB, I did work of an insurer for 12 years in Quebec where I occupied different management positions, which mainly consisted of working with NB Brokers .
3. What are some of your favorite pass-times? **Snowmobiling, hunting, walking, snowshoeing and camping.
4. Other areas of interest?
**During which time my children attended school, I was always involved both in school committees and activities. I am also on the board of directors for the Edmundston Chamber of Commerce.
5. Your educational background?
**Did 2 years at University in Education and completed a hair dressing course at Jon Raymond. As I enjoyed hairdressing, I did not like the uncertainty of a regular paycheck. Since being in the insurance industry, I have obtained both my CAIB designation and CIP diploma.
6. How long have you been involved in the insurance industry? As a broker?
**34 years combined both 16 years on company side and 18 years on broker side. My main focus has been in Commercial Lines since 2003 and Management since 2012.
7. How did you get into the insurance industry?
**Started as a receptionist on my brother’s suggestion. Shortly after starting, the company was expanding and looking for bilingual underwriters, I was offered a position as a personal lines underwriter.
8. What is your position?
**I am now owner of small brokerage with 4 locations.
9. Please give a brief summary of your time in the industry.
**Having worked my way up within the industry from receptionist to president in my 34 year span, I have a great appreciation of the contribution every team member brings to an organization regardless of it’s size.
10. What is your favorite part of being involved in the insurance industry?
**It’s a people business. I still love learning about my clients and get great satisfaction from their understanding about the potential risk exposure and the peace of mind proper insurance can bring to them.
