Kicking of the new year for Meet The Board Monday, we are talking with Erin Schryer today whom co-owns Kent & White with her husband.
1. Tell me a bit about yourself and your family.
*I am married to my husband Brian, and we have a 5 year old called Nathan.
2. Have you always lived in New Brunswick?
*No, I’m an Army Brat, so I was born in Winnipeg. Then I lived in Baden-Baden, Germany and after moved to Oromocto, NB. However, I’ve spent most of my life in Bathurst or Moncton.
3. What are some of your favorite pass-times?
*In the summer we like to spend time on the water, boating. I like to be outside wandering anywhere and exploring. In the winter, we enjoy snowshoeing. Our son plays soccer and hockey, so that takes up a lot of time even at 5! We also love to cook, host and entertain.
4.Other areas of interest? Participation in volunteer groups? Unusual endeavors currently or previously?
*I am a Director with the North Shore Regiment Association, and a member of the Wallace McCain Institute’s Entrepreneurial Leaders Program.
5. Your educational background?
*I have a Bachelor in Commerce from Mount Allison, and a Master of Business Administration from the Universite de Moncton.
6. How long have you been involved in the insurance industry? As a broker?
*I’ve been in the Insurance Industry for 4 years
7.How did you get into the insurance industry?
*My husband and I purchased his family brokerage from his father, Hugh.
8. What is your position?
*I am in charge of Business Development
9. Please give a brief summary of your time in the industry.
*After working mostly in Industrial and Oil & Gas Business Development positions for more than 10 years, I brought the experience over to Kent & White in 2018.
10. What is your favorite part of being involved in the insurance industry?
*The people for sure. There are some absolutely wonderful professionals in this industry, and a lot of people who really care. I love that our industry does a lot of good. We are there for people during so many different moments in their life, both the ups and the downs. I can think of one client where we insured his first car, his first home, and then his engagement ring for his fiancé within a matter of a couple of years. We get to be there for a lot of people’s special moments in life. We’re also there to provide comfort and guidance during some extremely stressful times.
11. Your aspirations, plans for the future?
*Personally I would like to spend as much time as possible with the people I care about.
*Professionally, it’s about creating the best work environment imaginable for our team, and creating a positive impact for our clients and communities.
